Familiarisation Tour for Climbers to Viking Slabs

Not sure where to climb outdoors around PG? Looking to meet other climbers? Join the UNBC Outdoors Club and the PG Section of the Alpine Club of Canada on a familiarisation tour to Viking Slabs!

This is a rock face that has only been recently developed; not all PG climbers are familiar with it yet.  So let’s go for a drive and a stroll (or a snowshoe) out to the base of the climbing area so you’ll be ready to go the next time you plan a climbing day.

April 2 is pretty early in the season, so there may still be snow – but you should still be able to take a look at the slabs and get a sense of what to expect!

Some folks may choose to stay and climb while there… that’s up to each individual and their skill set.

Meet at OVERhang parking lot at 9am, and we will convoy from there. Try to carpool if possible (and share gas money within your travel group).

Viking Slabs are accessed via Highway 16 East, just past Hungary Creek Road (approx. 1 hour drive).  It’s a flat, easy walk in (less than 1km).  Snowshoes may be helpful; we’ll have some spares available if needed.  For more info, check out this crag description http://rockclimbpg.ca/climbing-areas/viking-slabs/
