Youth Program Coordinator and Coach

Job Description:

The Youth Program Coordinator and Coach will be responsible for planning, coordinating, overseeing, and coaching OVERhang Climbing Gym’s weekly youth climbing programs, Pro-D days, spring break camps, and summer camps. OVERhang already has established programs for which we need one dedicated person to look after the daily operations and broad oversight as we continue to grow and deepen our impacts through program delivery.

OVERhang is looking for a dynamic, energetic person who is passionate about kids programming and working directly with youth to foster a love of climbing and staying active.  This unique position marries the creativity of lesson planning and program development with the exciting opportunity to actually coach kids and help them grow through camps, lessons, and one-on-one development.

This is a full-time position (40 hours) during the months of July and August, and part time (16-20 hours) during the rest of the year - with exceptions such as spring break camps. There may be opportunities for more hours and roles depending on the candidate’s availability, interests, and expertise.

  • Initiative/Enthusiasm – keen to grow our community!

 

Expectations:

The Youth Program Coordinator and Coach will be responsible for all planning aspects of youth programing. This will include working with managers and team members to become familiar with all current programming and the responsibilities of each.

They will the responsible for lesson plans for weekly youth programs, and coaching the programs - with occasional assistance from other team members. They will act as the senior coach for all programs. The coordinator may work with the Competition Team’s coaches to learn the ins and out of coaching high-level youth athletes, if it is a good fit for the candidate and OVERhang’s needs.

The Coordinator will work on creating and implementing schedules for camps and Pro-D days. They will be expected to contact parents, participants and other groups that may be involved in the programming with regards to expectations, risks, program details, costs, etc.

The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring every participant has a valid waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian prior to programming and that all contact information is up to date.

The Coordinator will run programs and camps as the senior coach and will direct assistant coaches when needed.  In time the coordinator will train and mentor other coaches and camp leaders.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in child care or child/youth programming or summer camp leadership
  • Training in program development, lesson planning, sport physiology, or related field
  • Previous climbing experience is ideal
  • Candidate will be required to submit a Criminal Reference Check with clear Vulnerable Sector Search
  • First aid training (will be provided if needed)
  • References required
