Dynos is a new program offered at OVERhang! It is an advanced climbing training program for youth that have done some climbing and have pushed past the Mountain Goats program, but aren't yet 100% committed to elite training and travelling to compete regionally/provincially on the Competitive Team. This program will propel them to train and enjoy climbing with a group of youth that all love the sport... and may spark their interest in joining the comp team in the future.
Youth aged 12-17
More technique-focused than Mountain Goats, less intense than Competitive Team. For those kids who are too old for Goats, or keen for more climbing and may be interested in someday joining the comp team. Maybe they love climbing but aren’t ready for the dedication of the competitive team... the Dynos will fit this wide range of interests.
One hour coached sessions Tuesdays at 3:30pm, from Sept 14 to Dec 14. Shoe rental is an additional $16 for the season - we strongly encourage participants to get their own!
Participants will get half price off their monthly memberships and will be encouraged to drop in 1-3 other times throughout the week to practice and grow their skills, at times of their own choosing. We will facilitate discussions between participants to help them connect and grow within the broader climbing community.
There will be a focus on technical skills such as belaying, route reading, and climbing-related strength and fitness, but also a healthy dose of fun and games! The goal is to prepare these individuals to join the comp team; yet also create a more casual, climbing-for-fun dynamic for those who don’t have the time or motivation for the rigors of competition.
During their hour, Dynos will build on the basic skills learned in Mountain Goats, expanding/deepening their skills, knowledge, communication and fitness to climb smarter, safer, and harder, as well as grow their love for the sport and the community.
To support the child growing into the sport, we support the participation of their family!
