Pine Camp SMITHERS 2023

Pine Camp SMITHERS 2023

We are excited to invite your child to join the P.I.N.E camp April 5 & 6, 2023 near Smithers, BC.

Play In Nature Education camp will be hosted by:

  • Lauren Phillips; Professional Forester, SAR professional, and President of OVERhang Education Centre in Prince George
  • Lisa Hendry; local adventurer, registered massage therapist, and parent of an intrepid daughter.

The camp will consist of a fantastically fun winter/spring outdoor adventure where the kids will learn essential outdoor skills including improvised survival shelters, building survival fires, and minor first aid interventions. We will play and explore, laugh and discover!  Learning about our ecosystems and how we can be stewards of our environment will be integrated into all our fun activities.  Participants will develop skills and safety awareness in using saws, knives, and fire starters, while gaining a respect for tools and each other.  If conditions and equipment allow, we may also snowshoe, roast smokies, make bannock, boil water, eat smores, and make some Wild Art!

We guarantee that your child will go home tired each night.

Please ensure your child is wearing non-cotton clothing.  Fleece, wool, polyester, and other synthetics stay warmer when wet!  Many of these can be acquired secondhand.  If you need help with this, let us know well in advance.

We ask that each child arrive with all of the following items in their backpack:

  • Sufficient food and snacks for a very full active day
  • Water bottle
  • Change of dry clothing (wool socks, long underwear, long-sleeve shirt, sweater, and gloves/mitts)
  • Outerwear appropriate for weather conditions as we will be outdoors for the full day (boots, snowpants, jacket, gloves/mitts, toque, and neck warmer).

Important Notes:

~We will be providing Smokies for the kids to roast over the campfire.  We may also make Bannock!  If your child does not eat smokies, buns, or Bannock then please provide alternatives and notify us in advance.

~OVERhang will provide equipment needed for any activities.  Please let us know if your child has their own snowshoes.

~If forecasted daily highs are anticipated to be colder than -15 degrees Celsius, we may cancel or revise the plan in communication with parents, approximately 48 hours before the camp begins.

After registering, we will provide each parent camp details as well as a waiver form (a notification of risk and release of liability). Please sign and return to Lisa by March 24th to ensure a spot in the camp.

We are looking forward to two fun-filled days with all your outdoor adventurers!
